The entire challenge is a demanding test of timing and dexterity conducted on a single screen under a strict time limit (approximately 30 seconds) and limited attempts (or lives).

The central source of tension is the Monk Master and his unique method of guarding the food. He uses a Buddhist Ōrin Bell for rhythmic enforcement.
This system consists of two parts: a large, stationary gold ball that acts as the bell body, and a small stick with a gold ball/bead that acts as the striker.
The Monk Master creates the challenging tempo by rapidly and rhythmically striking the small gold ball against the large gold ball, producing a crisp, metallic "clack" or "tok" sound.

The player must precisely time Tsururin Kun's move to grab the food during the brief pause in the Monk Master's strikes. If the player miscalculates, Tsururin Kun is instantly caught and hit.
The Monk Master uses the same stick to deliver a forceful "smack" or a book to the protagonist's head, which counts as a lost attempt.
Tsururin Kun can only endure a small number of these hits before the game ends, displaying a sarcastic failure message like, "Hah, you fool! You were so close!".

Conversely, if Tsururin Kun successfully acquires the food before being caught and before the timer expires, he achieves the goal. The game announces, "Full Belly! Please take your prize," which triggers the dispensing of the physical reward, completing the cycle of the prize machine.
