Turning off iCloud Photo Sharing on your iPhone helps you take full control over which photos are backed up and synced across your Apple devices. This is useful if you want to save storage space in iCloud, stop automatic syncing between devices, or prefer to store photos locally on your phone only.
To begin, open the Settings app on your iPhone. At the top of the screen, tap on your Apple ID name. From the Apple ID menu, select iCloud. Inside the iCloud settings, tap on Photos. If iCloud Photos is currently enabled, you’ll see a toggle labeled Sync this iPhone. Tap the toggle to turn it off. This will stop your iPhone from automatically uploading photos and videos to your iCloud account.
As an alternative method, go back to the main Settings screen and scroll down to the list of installed apps. Find and tap on Photos. Within the Photos settings, you’ll also see the option to toggle off iCloud Photos. Disabling this will immediately prevent any further media from syncing to iCloud and stop automatic backups of your photo library.
Keep in mind that turning off iCloud Photo syncing only affects future uploads from this device. Any photos previously uploaded to iCloud will remain stored there unless you delete them manually through iCloud.com or another synced device. You can still access and manage your photos locally using the Photos app, but they will no longer be shared or backed up to iCloud automatically.
This feature can be turned back on anytime if you decide to re-enable syncing or need to back up your photo library again.
