This is an old-school Multicart from back in the Day. There were tons of Multicarts (usually bootleg carts with many games on a single cartridge) on the original GameBoy, NES / Famicom and I have several on the Megadrive/Genesis
While there were some offical "multicarts" released such as Mario All-Stars or Ninja Gaiden Trilogy on SNES or the Mega Games series & the Sonic Compilation on the Megadrive /Genesis these were actually more commonly a compilation of games in a franchise or a way of repackaging older games to offer value for money
I've always been fascinated by multi-carts. The Labels often promise a lot more than the game delivers (claims of 99,999 games in 1 for example which is usually around 10-20 games endlessly repeated) and you never really know if they will even work. There is always the wonder about how they even got made etc.
This Multicart is one of many I own on Sega Megadrive. Most are 4 games in 1 (often with a loose theme) although I do have a 9 in 1 game too. This is just 2 games but a couple of absolute bangers!
Like most Megadrive ones I own it uses the Reset Button to select the games – although some require you to power cycle the system. I picked this up in the early 90's from a car boot sale along with a few of the others I own. Most multicarts have a number of smaller games on them and this is the case here with Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse & Aero Blasters (also known as Air Buster)
I actually had a Japanese copy of Castle of Illusion among the first games I owned for my system so I played it a LOT & basically know the game inside out. Aero Blaster I played a bit (never owned it officially but have it on a couple of multicarts)
I play it here on my MultiMega - the scanlines are added by a RetroTink as I normally play these games on a CRT (not the little one featured at the start of the video - that is just one of my screens I use for quick testing etc) although they don't seem to work well with Aero Blaster.
Let me know what you think. Prefer videos with or without scanlines?
Obviously in these days of Everdrives and flashcarts it isn't that impressive but back in the day having 2 (or more!) games on a single cartridge was like sorcery!
Also - let me know what you think. I'm keen to experiment.
I'm also sorting my loft and finding all sorts of obscurities, oddities and nice games from my collection so I'll be doing some random vids. Let me know if there is a console or game you'd like to see. Let me know if there are any games or consoles you'd like videos about. Let me know if you like the format (i.e. no voiceover and the addition of short facts). Want End Cards added to point out other similar videos? I'm just trying things really.
As always - captured from genuine hardware - in this case a CDX/MultiMega although the cartridge is obviously an old school bootleg!
As always if you enjoy this video let me know. Want more of this sort of content - let me know!
As always this is uploaded under the Fair Use Policy - no money is being made from this video.
