Ubisoft won't ditch AAA titles despite big free-to-play plans
Ubisoft won't abandon paid AAA games despite plans for free-to-play versions of its major franchises.
The studio's financial boss Frederick Duguet has told investors the company will no longer focus on just releasing three or four big budget titles every year, and free-to-play games are seen as "an additional way to experience" some of their IPs.
Clarifying its stance, a Ubisoft spokesperson told Eurogamer: "Our intention is to deliver a diverse line-up of games that players will love - across all platforms.
"We are excited to be investing more in free-to-play experiences, however we want to clarify that this does not mean reducing our AAA offering.
"Our aim is to continue to deliver premium experiences to players such as 'Far Cry 6', 'Rainbow Six Quarantine', 'Riders Republic' and 'Skull and Bones' to name a few while also expanding our free-to-play portfolio and strengthening our brands to reach even more players."
Last week, the studio unveiled plans for 'Tom Clancy's The Division: Heartland', which is due to launch later this year or early in 2022 as a free, standalone game.
