Last time around, I discovered that I'd missed the unlocking of TWO gem faces at some point, and we wound up having a delightful time in Talorus, helping the Talorids regain their autonomy, their ability to interact, and, presumably, their complicated three-sex biology!
This time, after a good round of levelling up back in Castle British, it's time to check out the *other* newly opened gem face, and... well, it's not as cool as Talorus! The Avatar finds himself in the largely abandoned Scintillus Academy of Magic, where he decides to take their high stakes wizarding exam despite not having completed the prerequisite seven-year course of study (and despite only knowing one spell!).
There's good news and bad news, depending on how you look at it: this wizarding test requires almost no magic and, in fact, relies far more heavily on combat skills and general athleticism. This is great news in the sense that it's possible for our Avatar to proceed through it, and less-great news in the sense that it's kind of disappointing from a ludonarrative perspective (why create a magic test area that would actually put a pure mage character at a disadvantage to a pure fighter?).
Oh, well: at least it's fun to solve puzzles and do some fights! The Avatar is nearing the completion of the exam (I hope) when we run out of time; hopefully the next session will see him get his diploma!
