This video mainly comprises a demo of Ultimate Doom's E3M3 'Pandemonium' in which all monsters, items and secrets are scored from a pistol start, with no damage taken. The demo has commentary that was recorded live as I played.
This map is not very hard at all for no damage play, however this soon changes if you go the wrong way, get surrounded by enemies or have a loss of concentration. This video is my fourth in which I have commentated as I played and concentration is a challenge; fortunately my mistakes in this run were not punished by the monsters or damaging floors.
The tic counting technique for going short distances across damaging floors was introduced in my video for Doom 2's Map 29 'The Living End',
It is possible to use the method on the chaingun secret instead of relying on invulnerability. However, although the method would let me start from a reliable location in a certain direction at a time that shouldn't get me hurt, I would still need to turn correctly, and a large enough error with that part of the journey would still cause a risk of damage.
Also, it IS possible to get to the invulnerability across the small pool of toxic water without touching the water at all. I discovered this by having the player co-ordinates showing on the map (which would be cheating when playing properly) and, with slowed down footage, observing that Z sometimes doesn't reach minus 32 (the poison) for any tics at all. However, these routes seem to take you close to the dangerous wall on the left hand side and if I wasn't pixel perfect in my initial position or direction I would collide with the wall and fall into the toxic water for many tics, with a high chance of injury. So it isn't worth trying those routes in a no damage challenge.
It's much better to stand on the bottom step, not too precisely, as in the video, and aim at the small step on the right hand side opposite; then aim to move at a multiple of 32 seconds. I still spend only a handful of tics in the poison, and that period is timed well away from the multiples of 32 tics which would cause damage.
