This is a reading of an excerpt from the poem Ulysses by Lord Alfred Tennyson read in honour of the forthcoming space sim game "Squadron 42, Star Citizen". It describes the imagined thoughts of the aging Ulysses, hero of the classical Greek poem "The Odyssey" attributed to Homer. For correct captions please use the English version, not the "English (automatic)" version.

Ulysses is remembering his past adventures and preparing to set out in search of new adventures just as the fans of Squadron 42, Star Citizen eagerly anticipate the beginning of our new adventures and space odysseys in Cloud Imperium Games' new and to date entirely crowd funded space sim, which is set in a future era which echoes the historic fall of classical Rome and Byzantium.

The reading is set to a video of Earth orbit from NASA. This begins over the Straits of Gibraltar which lie at the mouth of the Mediterranean Sea (left) across which the hero Ulysses travelled and around which many empires of old rose and fell. The orbit continues south east over the Sahara, Ethiopia and the Arabian Sea into falling night over the Indian ocean. Thanks NASA, you and your colleagues in other space agencies and organisations are are among the true explorers of our age and have a great responsibility to keep the Earth safe from harm, good luck with that for all our sakes. Our best wishes and sincere gratitude go with you.
