Lesson Three:
Set-up:
Place the bot center stage, turn Damage and Position Reset on and Set Damage to 200. Turn AI Setting from Stand to Jump.
Exercise:
3.1
Pick up a sword and practice your combos from Lesson Two. Learn the timing to land downlight on a jumping opponent. When you are able to do so consistently try dashing in with your down light.
3.2
Grab a hammer and attempt the same. You can also use neutral light to pick up KOs on highly damaged opponents. Find the timing and spacing for neutral light and your combos.
3.3
Enter options and turn AI Setting back to Stand. Change the bot's Legend to Teros, Give Weapon to Axe, Attack Reaction to S Heavy, and Set Damage to 50.
Get a sword and neutral light Teros. He will attack with a side signature immediately after leaving hitstun. If you input a backwards dash after your neutral light Teros will not reach you with his signature, and you will be in range for down Light. Practice whiff punishing Teros until you are comfortable using back dash into down light.
3.4
Switch to hammer and practice whiff punishing from a jump. Use side light on Teros and back dash. You'll find this doesn't get yourself out of his range. After the back dash you will jump and fast fall. If properly timed you will barely evade the signature and be in perfect range to down Light into side air.
The purpose of this practice is not to memorize the exact distance various attacks push Teros. Becoming familiar with knockback and signature hitboxes will come with time and experience. Your goal is to begin building the muscle memory to quickly and accurately use movement with attacks.
