Uninstalling and removing a PPA from Ubuntu 12.04
This video hopefully intends to guide you on uninstalling and removing a PPA and its software in Ubuntu 12.04
In this video, I remove Format Junkie's previous PPA which was from Ubuntu's App Showdown. I wished to install the newer Release PPA from them, and to do so I have to first remove this old one.
You can also remove a PPA when you no longer use it, or simply want to do a system clean up.
Steps:
1. We need to identify the application's runtime name.
2. Run the application.
3. Open System Monitor, and under Processes search for the name.
4. Once you've found it, close both System Monitor and the application.
5. Open a terminal.
6. type in the following code:
sudo apt-get remove application_name
application_name here refers to the runtime name from System Monitor we found above.
7. Hit Enter and when asked for your password enter it.
8.When asked, type in "y" to continue with the app's uninstallation.
9. Now we move onto removing the actual PPA for that app.
Open Ubuntu Software Center.
10. Under Edit, click on Software Sources...
11. Click on the Other Software tab.
12. Scroll down and search for the entries with the app's name in it.
13. Select the entry, and hit Remove. Enter password if prompted.
14. Once all entries with said app's name are gone, you've successfully uninstalled the PPA and its software! Congratulations!
