Unlock Invincibility & Unlimited Missles in the Original Metroid?!?
70Everyone knows about the Justin Bailey ------ ------ cheat code or password for the original Metroid game for the NES, that's not much of a secret. But what if I told you that there was another passcode for Metroid that might be more powerful and more fun? Let's take a closer look.
The reason why there are passwords in Metroid in the first place had to do with the difference between the Japanese and USA versions of the game. In Japan, Metroid was released on the Famicom Disk System which meant players could save their progress right on the disk. In the USA, we never got that, and Metroid was released on a traditional cartridge. This was before battery backups too, so what was there to do so you didn't have to beat the game in one sitting? Enter the Password System.
If you enter NARPAS SWORD0 000000 000000 (the 0 at the end of SWORD is a Zero, not an O, as are the characters that follow) you start the game with unlimited Missiles and Invincibility! This can make the game more fun than using the Justin Bailey cheat as you actually still have to progress through the game instead of starting at nearly full-power and with most of the game complete.
Nintendo added passwords into many early games on the Nintendo Entertainment System to help players keep their progress even if they do turn off their system. There are a number of different games to utilize such a system on the NES, from Punch Out to the Legend of Zelda. The Justin Bailey cheat lets players start Samus in Norfair with five Energy Tanks, 255 Missiles, the Varia Suit, the Hi-Jump Boots, Screw Attack, and the Wave Beam. Kraid and Ridley are defeated and the path to Tourian is opened. You still need to pick up the Ice Beam, but beyond this, Samus is locked and loaded and ready to kick Mother Brain's posterior cortex!
This isn't the only way to get a suitless Samus. If you can beat the game in under 3 hours, you can unlock this perk. You can also enter code 000000 000020 000000 000020 to start the game as Suitless Samus, but you don't have any of the bonus weapons or abilities.
