Do YOU Do This Video Game Quirk in Super Mario Bros 3? WE DO!
Ever notice those quirks in video games that become ingrained in your muscle memory? You know, like jumping to catch that power-up after defeating a boss, even though it doesn't actually do anything? But you can't help yourself, you have to do it. In this episode, we dive into that weird tendency and explore why we do it, specifically focusing on the classic Super Mario Bros 3 from Nintendo for the NES and that oh-so-satisfying jump to grab the Koopalings' wand after you whoop their shelled butts.
Was it a subtle taunt added to the game? Or just pure, hilarious video game logic? What ever it is, after fighting an epic battle with Larry, Iggy, and the crew, our favorite iconic plumber will often be the ones pulling off and executing our quirky habit.
As you take on each of the Koopa Kids, the goal is to retrieve a magic wand to restore the king of a specific land to their original form. Some were transformed into spiders. Some into dogs, But whatever they were turned into it is Mario's Job to undo this Koopaling Catastrophe!
Once you have jumped on the Koopa Kids' head, they spin in their shell and ascend to the top of the screen. Then, the screen flashes and they drop the wand. This is where our quirk comes into play. Do you just let the wand hit the floor and bounce, eventually just running over to grab it? Or are you like us, and do you try to jump and grab the wand before it hits the ground? Sometimes we miss, but that makes the times when we do snag the falling wand all that more satisfying.
While I think this is much more popular than the Yoshi Bounce in Super Mario World, I am not sure this is something everyone does in Super Mario Bros 3. Let us know, do you do this? Or are we just weird?
