A sample of the 'Attic' real-time ray tracing demo released by Epic Games, based on Unreal Engine 4, and aimed at the feature set of the Nvidia RTX series of GPUs (running on my RTX 3070). You can download the free demo here: https://developer.nvidia.com/unrealengine

The RTX Direct Illumination (RTXDI) highlighted in this demo significantly improves ambiance through vastly more accurate lighting and shadows. I repeatedly toggle RTX on and off as I walk through the attic, and with RTX on, transparency, reflection, refraction and shadow effects are both much more realistic, and also run at much higher framerates (and use less VRAM) than without RTX.

The single largest improvement both visually and performance-wise comes from DLSS. It reduces VRAM usage, and boosts FPS, by anywhere from 25-50% or more.

Note: FPS is much lower than normal in this video because of Afterburner's recording overhead + I'm using a 63FPS cap; when not recording my FPS is typically 80+.
