This is an updated copy of my earlier GTA San Andreas video with a slight change.

As with all games, the final determination of whether or not it will run under Windows 8 (or any version) is the way the drivers are used.

In GTA San Andreas, it seems to use DirectX 9 or higher. Because I'm running this on an NVIDIA GTX 580 (Supports DirectX 9.1 and above), the game has 'decided' that this is ok and allows it to run.

Other games, like Max Payne 2, won't run on this system. Not because of incompatibility with Windows 8, but because it wants Direct X 9.0, but the system only reports 9.1+.

However, on other systems that have Windows 8 with a lower video card and drivers that support 9.0, it runs fine. Of course, that's actually for another video that I'm working on.

So, check the spec of your video card. Go to their site and see which version of DirectX their Windows 8 drivers support. Then you can be pretty sure if a game is going to run.

Also, here's the patches for GTA SA:
