UV Max Speedrun of Doom Episode 2 in 24:45
541Finally, a 19 year old doom record was beaten by almost 6 minutes. I'm glad the grind is over; I don't see myself running episode 2 again in the foreseeable future. Let's see how long this record lasts :) The time is improvable of course; my "sum of best" is actually 23m55. But getting a time like that might require an amount of grinding beyond what my patience and my resilience allow for.
By far, this was the run that I've put the most effort, blood, sweat and tears into. Multiple times I felt like giving up and settle for a slower time, but something in me just kept on going. Doing this run was painful, but in the end I got a really good time and completed my personal objective.
Beating the previous world record of 30m27 [Radek Pecka, 2001] wasn't the problem; after the previous practice from UV Maxing each of the levels, my first exit of episode 2 was already a 27m38 (attempt 19). After a few more improvement I got the time of 25m18 (attempt 42), and I established to myself the objective of beating the 25-minute-barrier.
Boy did I not know what I was getting myself into! After attempt 42 I improved the route of 4 different maps, got better setups for the SR50 tricks, and spent immense hours practicing segmented runs by using saves. These did not count as attempts, but increased the total hours spent in this, which in the end resulted in over 30 hours of work. I only managed to complete my objective at attempt 119, after a time span of 2 weeks of running only this.
