After a nice message in the beginning, we get a transition to one of the levels that will definitely be remembered for its otherworldly visuals. The background, even despite its messy clouds, is an icing on cake. That giant wheel and stadium were well conveyed there, and you could definitely tell that this is a theme park. However, the blocks and sprites have a mixed texture. While the foreground made of tiles from castle destruction cutscenes definitely felt like good custom graphics, I'm not exactly fond on how colored square blocks were used to pad out the remaining part of the first room's last screen. The grass ledges didn't exactly make me say wow, and Volcano Lotuses have kinda broken graphics. Mechanics are mostly functional, but the platform before the first line-guide creating plant didn't go down, so I had to respawn it to advance. You can also get punished for boarding the first platform in the 2nd room too soon. I don't like how you get introduced to that auto-scrolling section. I wasn't exactly fond of that pattern in the 3rd room where that platform has to go up, either. Other than that, there are some good patterns with both platforms and cutting tools, and also a satisfying use of star and fish generator to fill out an otherwise empty section after the autoscroll stops, so 100 cool points for that. While this wasn't just a level created for the sake of VLDC aesthetics, it ended slightly too early, and there was potential to make more out of this.

In this series, I will be playing levels from SMW Central's Vanilla Level Design Contest 2024. All playthroughs of standard levels will stay blind, albeit their respective videos will be all edited. This means that I only play the levels for the first time while capturing footage. However, an exception will be made for kaizo entries. After I've played them blind first, I'll record their replays and only leave successful attempts.

Super Mario World belongs to Nintendo. I don't own the game itself nor do I monetize its contents. This video wasn't made for business anyway and its sole purpose is showoff and entertainment.
