VS. Battle City (Arcade version)

“VS. BATTLE CITY”, a fixed-screen shooting game for the Arcade, a port of the Famicom game "Battle City". It was launched by Namco in 1985. This game is a revamped version of the company’s arcade game “Tank Battalion” from 1980. The game is set in an urban environment where the player controls a tank with the objective of eliminating all enemies while safeguarding their base.

Like “Warpman” from 1985, the game underwent a makeover with new graphics and enhanced gameplay elements such as cooperative and competitive play and power-ups. These enhancements contributed to its success as a solid title during the Famicom boom.

Specific changes from “Tank Battalion” include:
- The single type of tank has been expanded to four types
- Terrain structures now include bulletproof walls, forests, rivers, and ice fields
- Tanks can be upgraded by collecting power-up items
- A 2-player mode has been added
- Background music has been added at the start and other times (The MSX version of "Tank Battalion" was the first to have this feature)

In single-player mode, you control a yellow tank, and in two-player mode, a green one. Once a certain number of enemy tanks are destroyed, you complete the stage. If your base is attacked, the game ends instantly.
There are a total of 35 stages, but you can also play “reverse stages” that use the same maps. These reverse stages are designed for advanced players, with more powerful enemies appearing.

Some characters in the map are modeled after characters from other games, such as the alien from “Galaxian” (1979), Pooka and Fygar from “Dig Dug” (1982), Hobblin from “Libble Rabble” (1983), and Mappy from “Mappy” (1983).
