The Schnell boat or E-boat was developed back in 1929 in the German Weimar Republic, it was developed due to the Treaty of Versailles which put limits on Germany for ships, like destroyers, frigates, cruisers, battleships, and other capital ships. This was a way to get around the limitations imposed by the Treaty of Versailles, because motorized torpedo boats weren't in the list.

These E-boats weren't originally made to be fighting vessels, the hulls were made by Lürssen which was a German shipbuilding company. The German navy saw an interest in fast motorized torpedo boats in the late 1920s, so this is how the E-boat was developed.

The good thing about these boats is that, you have a torpedo tube which is embedded into the hull of the ship. When you launch a torpedo, the direction you are moving towards is where your torpedoes will go. Unlike some motorized torpedo boats where you have to turn the ship at an angle to aim and launch torpedoes. Having the torpedo tubes in the hull of the boat gives is a more sleeker appearance. Plus, you can have two additional torpedoes which can be reloaded after the torpedoes in the tube were expended.

The boat itself is very long, it is much longer than a British Vosper I, or a PT boat. A longer ship is a bigger target, because you need to expose your broad sides to use all your guns. As for guns, the S-80b has two 20mm auto cannons, and a quad 7.92x57mm machine guns on a single turret. The S-100 (1944) has one twin 20mm auto cannons, a quad 20mm auto cannons mount, and a 30mm auto cannon on the front. The S-100 (1945) has a twin 20mm cannon, 20 mm cannon, and a 37mm cannon on the rear. The 37mm cannon can be fired continuously, because they are loaded by 8 or 10 round clips. The 20mm cannons take 20 round box magazine, it take a few seconds to reload it. The quad 20mm cannon takes longer to reload, because 4 20 round box magazines have to be reloaded. I would say the firepower on these boats is more than adequate to sink most motorized torpedo boats.

These Schnell boats are fast, and this is why they are called Schnell boats. Schnell means fast in German, so it is a fast boat. Like all motorized torpedo boats, your main weapon is the torpedo, and with those weapons you can take out bigger ships. It won't be easy getting close to a submarine chaser, corvette, destroyer, or a light cruiser, because those ships have a lot firepower. A 4" shell one of those vessels will be enough to sink most boats. Motorized boats have almost no armor, the hulls are made mostly of wood or fiberglass. Big ships have all kind of weapons from 20mm AA guns to 130mm cannons.
