Washing Gloomhaven Minis
A little over a month ago, I went and painted 5 of the starting classes from Gloomhaven: the mindthief, cragheart, scoundrel, tinkerer, and spellweaver. That was legitimately the first time I've ever painted a tabletop board game miniature. While doing this, I was using Citadel paints that were probably a little over 10 years old. This basically meant that I was working with something that was less like a paint and more like a nugget that I had to break down into something usable. Not really sure why I put myself through that for my first tabletop miniature painting experience but whatever I did it lmao
Fast forward to today, and I learned that in order to get my minis to look a little better during our board gaming experiences, I had to apply wash paints. Washes are basically much more watery paints that you slather onto your mini so that it pools into all the right crevices on the miniature in order to replicate shading. "Liquid talent", as it's endearingly called by some, I went and tried liberally applying citadel shading paints onto those first 5 minis I painted.
On top of that, I also finally stopped being lazy and also painted the Brute mini. Despite him getting barely any board game hours, I still felt like I improved a lot after seeing my paint job on the Brute. Well, there's also the fact that I stopped using awful decade old citadel paints and switched to newly purchased Apple Barrel paints, which felt infinitely nicer to use despite being some low quality cheap acrylic paint.
Oh yeah I also went ahead and painted the squid-face class at the end of the vid, so that's a thing.
