The vast majority of us don’t drink enough water. According to an article published by Garmin, eighty percent of people do not drink enough water. That is crazy but not really surprising. I know there are times when I am super thirsty, but in the middle of work, I just ignore it for a few hours. That is probably bad as our bodies are sixty percent of the H2O. To combat this, I redownloaded my little buddy WaterMinder for the 21-day challenge. What’s going on everybody? My name is Jack Jenkins, and I welcome you to my YouTube channel. I do fitness and other self-improvement challenges to determine if they are worth it for you.

I did my review of WaterMinder two years ago. Jeeze, the time flies while doing YouTube. I highly recommend watching that video. During that review, the App had a significant update that added a ton of different challenges. From No Coffee to Juice Cleansing, there were nine interesting tests for me to face. During the next year, I want to try to overcome eight of these challenges and record the results for YouTube. I don’t drink alcohol, so I had to skip that one. Stay subscribed to that YouTube channel to learn how the rest went. To start off, I did the first and basic challenge. Meet my hydration goal every day for twenty-one days.

Curious about the benefits of hitting High Hydration, I took to AI. According to ChatGPT, a great resource that isn’t stolen or will ever lie, Maximum hydration “should provide a range of benefits including improved brain function, better digestion, increased energy levels, regulated body temperature, potential weight management support, decreased joint pain, and a healthier heart by reducing the risk of heart failure; even mild dehydration can negatively affect cognitive abilities and overall health.” I don’t usually quote ChatGPT, but I had the quote printed out as a motivator to meet my hydration goal after failing the challenge on my first go-around. With this motivation for my second try, I grabbed my water bottle and drank water.

As a quick recap, WaterMinder allows you to enter a liquid source and how much you drink. The source of the liquid ranks from zero to one based on how hydrating it is. For example, water is a pure source of hydration, so drinking 12oz of water at one hydration value will give you twelve hydration ounces. Coffee has a hydration value of point eight so drinking 12oz of coffee will give you nine-point six hydration ounces. This point system lets you get hydration values from soup, egg nogg, and Hot Chocolate. All of them will calculate correctly, allowing you to hit your goal.

That goal is calculated from the App. I am an obese person in the Midwest, so I calculated my goal starting at eighty ounces. New to this challenge is an adjustable hydration scale for working out. For every 100 calories burned, I must drink an extra two ounces. I love this adjustable goal as it makes each day more unique. If I do a cardio day, then, of course, I must drink more as everything is all sweated out.
My experience doing the twenty-one days of drinking water can be explained in one word… pee. I had to pee so much during this challenge that it was insane. I was in the bathroom at least eight times a day or more. That is within the healthy range, but still… It was a lot. I did do this challenge towards the winter months, so I wasn’t sweating nearly as much as I should. I also work as a Software Developer at home, which is nice since the bathroom is always next to me. I used to work in pest control and let me tell you, it was a challenge back then to find the right location to go to the bathroom. I would not be hitting my hydration goals if I still did that job, which is a problem.
