The first hour of class was spent talking about game design, today about genre. Specifically, we talked about genre-defining games, and how it's important to know when to follow convention in a genre and when to break it.


We then switched into UE4, and talked about the materials editor. I walked the students through the process of creating a simple material, including setting the color, metal, specular, and roughness of a material, then making it a bit more complicated by adding a texture and a normal map to it.
