In the history of UEFA’s utilisation of the Silver Goal, it only came into question twice. The first time in a throwaway Champions League qualifier featuring Ajax, and the other in an extremely high stakes game between Greece and Czech Republic in the semi-finals of Euro 2004. The rule was that if a team was ahead at the half-time in extra time, that team would win. Greece’s goal effectively was a golden goal, scoring in first half stoppage time, on 105 minutes, on the way to winning Euro 2004.
