What If TOGURO stayed with GENKAI? #shorts #yuyuhakusho
131If Toguro stayed with Genkai the simple choice to remain with his true love instead of succumbing to his desire for ultimate strength, would drastically alter not only his and Genkai’s lives but also the events of Yu Yu Hakusho as whole, turning their story into one of perserverance, redemption and partnership rather than tragedy and vengeance.
The diverging point would therefore be after the brutal massacre of their dojo by demons, when Toguro is offered the chance to gain overwhelming power by trading his humanity. However here in this timeline, Genkai’s heartfelt pease convinces him that strength without purpose is hollow. Moved by her profound yet simple words, Toguro refuses the offer, deciding to heal and rebuild alongside Genkai, and in the process likely unlocking a greater spiritual power alongside her fueld with their love and determination. Without the darkness and sheer single-minded ruthlessness of his transformation Toguro would remain a simple martial artist, powerful and well grounded, and dedicated to protecting the living world, facing his guilt, and getting stronger through training alongside Genkai to become even more legendary as fighters and mentors, as they not only rebuild their dojo but probably even go on to marry and start a family. There’s also the likelihood that a good Toguro and a more optimistic and active Genkai its highly likely that the Chapter Black saga could be prevented, Koenma could recruit him as a senior advisor or protector for Spirit World affairs. This would mean: Toguro could be the one to identify Sensui’s growing instability earlier, possibly intervening before he starts his apocalyptic plan, and more importantly stepping in to comfort and council him that the actions of a few scum bag humans doesn’t define all of them anymore than bad demons define all demons, saving the other spirit Detective from nihilism and despair as a mentor and counter balance with a healthy view of the duality of good and evil, at the same time Toguro might also replace Yusuke’s role as Sensui’s main opponent, seeing their confrontation as a battle of ideologies far before it would happen in canon. Finally When Yusuke and his spirit detective team eventually comes into the picture, the dynamic of the story shifts even more significantly: his training becomes more intense and effective with Genkai and Toguro teaching him learning discipline and restraint alongside honing his spiritual energy which would prepare him far better for the 3 kings arc. Meanwhile for the rest of Team Urameshi: Kuwabara would see Toguro as a role model for balancing strength and kindness, while Hiei would eventually come to respect Toguro’s rejection of power at the cost of humanity and kindness, and Kurama would appreciate Toguro’s wisdom, drawing parallels to his own struggles with his demon past. And the Dark Tournament woud likely still happen but without its main villain it would need an antagonist willing to stand up against Team Urumeshi with Toguro backing them, as this would likely be an idealized timeline, but what do you think of
