What Is The Most Overrated Mario Game? My Pick May Surprise You
When it comes to characters and franchises that simply produce masterpiece after masterpiece, the Super Mario Brothers series has a consistent record of excellence. But even amongst great games you may have one that is slightly more overrated than it deserves to be. while I love just about every Super Mario Bros platforming game, there are some that I definitely love and appreciate more than others. as such, let's take a look at three of the most iconic games in the Mario series and rank them from best to which is the most overrated. My choice may surprise you.
The Contenders:
Super Mario 3
Super Mario World
Mario 64
Music
Super Mario World
Super Mario 3
Mario 64
All three of these games have iconic soundtracks, from Super Mario 64 featuring the first time we hear Mario's voice to Koji Kondo's epic themes played in Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario World. Super Mario Bros 3 is very good, but Super Mario World has my favorite pieces of music for any game. I love the little details such as the extra drum beats when Mario is riding Yoshi as well. In comparison, I think the audio improvements were not as pronounced in Mario 64 as in Super Mario World or Super Mario 3. It's good, but the other two are vastly superior.
Art Style
Super Mario World
Super Mario 3
Mario 64
Once again, I love the graphic and art style on the Super Nintendo over the NES & N64 and it's not even close. I'm not a fan of the polygon animation and art style of the N64, it's just far too blocky for my taste. I don't dislike the look of Mario and everything in Super Mario Bros 3, but I don't think it's quite as refined even as what we got in Super Mario Bros 2.
Fun Factor
Super Mario World
Super Mario 3
Mario 64
This is going to seem like a broken record but Super Mario World just is a more fun game in my opinion. The levels are colorful and bright, again the music ties everything together, and the challenge is at the perfect balance. Add in the mix of having two different exits for different levels, and unlike Super Mario Bros 3, you can actually go back into a level after you have defeated it to try to find a secondary path. And you get Yoshi, and all the different color Yoshi's and their abilities. I do consider in many ways Mario 64 to be more fun than Super Mario Bros 3, but that camera is terrible at times.
What do you think? which Super Mario Bros game out of these three is the most overrated? share your thoughts, I would love to hear them!
