Elden Ring is not a game of melee action combat, it's a game of projectiles. IMO the addition of chain casting in particular makes spells more interesting by giving them some variable timing. However by having no negatives, such as additional stamina/fp cost or extended recovery time, spells are just encouraged to be spammed even if they're not landing. Combined with a generous FP pool as well as FP costs and it's no wonder projectile spam is so endless.
