Shimmer is one of the best addition with Terraria 1.4.4, some say. Yeah, I guess, the shimmer interacts with various items, decrafting them, or better yet, transmuting them into something better!.. Just don't ever drain the whole pool entirely, since Shimmer won't come back if you wipe them out. Which would be a shame: No items like Gummy Worm; it increases the fishing skill by, like, 3 I think... But wait a minute, why don't we just fish in Shimmer? Since Terraria allow you to fish in Lava and Honey, why don't we try to fish in Shimmer?
