I've wanted to sit and talk about this for a little while so here it is, my thoughts about why Oculus Quest 2 is the BEST thing that's happened to VR & is crucial/integral to the future of VR as a whole... There are many in the wider VR community who are generally negative towards the Oculus Quest 2, many of these reasons are valid and the focus of this video today isn't necessarily to dig into the more questionable practices of Facebook/Oculus (the data harvesting, the business practices etc...). Today I just want to focus on the overall impact that I believe the Oculus Quest 2 will have on the future of VR and how it's shaping the landscape for years to come.

For many the Oculus Quest 2 feels like a step backwards, something that's pulling VR down and hurting the quality of high end PC VR experiences (creating an almost PC VR vs Quest 2 / Oculus Quest vs PC VR scenario in many circles) but the truth is VR started it's commercial life as a fairly unattainable product for many regular consumers (high price, high space demand & existing PC setups) and we've not done enough since it's launch into the market to bring in a wider group of players. Without a large install base VR will never be destined to attract big developers for huge expansive, top quality (triple A) experiences because there is never going to be enough return on those products, right now VR needs games & experiences more than any other improvements & we get those by bringing in more players...

The Oculus Quest 2 is the headset that starts the ball rolling on real mass adoption of VR. We're not there yet but it's started, the Quest 2 kids of today are the high end PC VR players of tomorrow...
