Why Ratchet & Clank is the Most Important PS5 Game
13Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is the most crucial game released for the PlayStation 5 thus far. While the PS5 has a growing library of games, the vast majority of its big titles are also available on PlayStation 4, or on other systems.
Under normal circumstances, new consoles are sold primarily on the strength of exclusive games, but thus far, the PS5 hasn't had many (if any) big, high profile releases that aren't available elsewhere. The cost in developing games for the PS5 is so high, and the consumer base is so small, that it doesn't make financial sense to only release for the new hardware.
Enter Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, a game from Sony's Insomniac Games, a studio which can afford to take an initial hit on sales, safe in the knowledge that the game's status as a system seller will bear fruit in the long run.
At least, that's the theory.
