Why Resident Evil is Coming to Dead by Daylight
Dead by Daylight's latest crossover event will see characters from Resident Evil 2 and 3 - Claire Redfield, Leon Kennedy, Jill Valentine, and Nemesis - appearing in a special mode for fans of Capcom's iconic horror franchise.
It's obvious to see what Dead by Daylight creator Behaviour Interactive get from this: they're able to play with some of their favourite horror toys from the Resident Evil series, plus it's a tremendous boon to the popular multiplayer game which should introduce new Resident Evil fans to the title.
What, though, does Capcom get from this? There's no immediate, easily quantifiable benefit to putting Resident Evil in other games, and yet Capcom does it constantly, working with studios big and small to get arrange multiple crossovers this year alone.
While the short-term benefits are hard to track, the big appeal is that ever important brand recognition. You don't get to be the biggest name in video game horror without making sure people never forget you.
