Did Resident Evil: Village Steal a Boss Character?
Resident Evil: Village has gotten Capcom into a little hot water this week amid accusations that one boss character, Sturm, was plagiarised from the 2013 Dutch horror movie Frankenstein's Army. The movie's director, Richard Raaphorst, has stated that he feels Capcom used his design without acknowledgement or compensation.
There's no denying, the designs do look very similar. There's actually a healthy precedent for this kind of thing within the gaming industry, with games developers often helping themselves to ideas, characters, or story points from major movies. Donkey Kong, Metal Gear Solid, and Fortnite/PUBG are but a few examples of developers getting creative with other people's intellectual property.
