We break the ice on the game by doing some Racing at Heritage Ride (Downhill) on Snocoach Hill, Canada, a course we completed prior. It is the easiest one. Vid timeline:
We did the track 3 times. Below are the time and scoring.
We race together to have our points added at the end to try to snatch the Gold Medal. Progress while in-game is shown at the center by a bar, between the players. Have to reach the finish line before the bar (representing both players elapsed times: Player 1 myself is blue, Player 2 gold) reaches the medals.
Playing in Co-op first is a good way to the get the hang of the game before things get more serious in Versus mode. It takes a bit of practice if one is using the Board, but is cooler than going with the controller, as it gives that touch of realism.
Unique here is that you have to select two characters before starting. The character I choose as the rider, has better jumping stats. The second character acts as the camera man; I choose the one that grants a speed boost when the meter is filled by doing tricks. So, its a good idea to experiment with different combos, depending on the course and what type of goal it has. Thought that was cool, but is going to take a bit to unlock the other characters. Note that one can't choose the same one to fill both positions at the same time.
