Here is how to send wireless signals with fire charges and dispensers. They use B.U.Ds to detect when the flame appear in one of the 3 possible landing zones.
Having tested it, the most reliable distance is a 5 block wide gap between dispenser and BUD. The further the distance, the more unreliable it becomes. For this reason, you should make sure to have as many adjacent air blocks to the BUD as possible.
