4When Microsoft revealed that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt would receive an Xbox One X upgrade at E3 2017, many gamers were elated.
It had been a much-requested patch ever since the console was announced a year earlier. Since then, gamers have been waiting patiently for information regarding what the patch would bring to the game on Xbox One X. Today, an interview between Xbox Wire and CD Projekt RED's development lead Jakub Kutrzuba revealed further details.
When asked about what specifically the development team was doing to enhance The Witcher 3 for Xbox One X, Kutrzuba said the following.
With the additional power of the Xbox One X, we are able to deliver The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in 4K, while providing numerous visual tweaks such as higher-quality shadows, ambient occlusion & texture filtering, as well as higher-resolution textures, and an all-around performance boost... Beautiful visuals are one of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's standout features, breathing life into the game's open-world full of places to see, secrets to uncover, and adventures to embark on.
While 4K resolution is important for a crisper picture — even though it's unclear if the game runs at "dynamic" 4K like PlayStation 4 Pro or true native 4K — upgrading other aspects of the visuals should prove a treat too. The Witcher 3 on Xbox One X features better shadows, ambient occlusion, texture filtering, and higher-resolution textures. The game has also received a boost in performance on the upcoming console as it struggled in some areas on Xbox One.
A resolution upgrade wouldn't make the game look as impressive if it didn't come with better shadows and textures too, so it's nice to see CD Projekt RED focus on upgrades across the board. It's unclear if the patch will launch alongside the Xbox One X on November 7, 2017, but we'll update you as soon as we know.

Xbox One X Runs The Witcher 3 at 60FPS, Without a Patch
According to Eurogamer, The Witcher 3 shipped with an unlocked framerate, allowing it to potentially reach 60fps, which it's now able to accomplish (with occasional dips) on Xbox One X. However, the increased framerate comes at the cost of resolution, as the unpatched Xbox One version of The Witcher 3 runs at 900p. A later update boosted resolution to 1080p, but locked the framerate in at 30fps.
According to Xbox Wire, an Xbox One X-specific update for The Witcher 3 is on its way. The patch will boost resolution to 4K and provide "numerous visual tweaks such as higher-quality shadows, ambient occlusion & texture filtering, as well as higher resolution textures, and an all-around performance boost." The post doesn't mention any changes to the locked framerate.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (Polish: Wiedźmin 3: Dziki Gon) is the third and final installment in the series of games developed by CD Projekt RED featuring the witcher Geralt of Rivia. The game was originally scheduled for release in late 2014, then pushed back to 24 February 2015, and finally released on 19 May 2015. During the first two weeks since release it had sold more than 4 million copies worldwide , more than doubling the total sales of its predecessor The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings .
Unlike the previous games, The Witcher 3 is set in a multi-region open world, featuring over 100 hours of content. Several early articles mentioned that the developers planned to have an open world similar to that in Skyrim but 20% larger . The devs were quick to point out that while there was much to appreciate in Bethesda's open world concept, they were also making an effort not to repeat what they perceived as the flaws in-game.
