Thought my controller was broken, so I was mostly testing controllers. I was unable to parry. Instead when I hit B the character would dodge, which usually only happens when you double tap B. It turns out I was encumbered by heavy armor and needed to strip down. I had no idea this was a consequence of carrying too much weight. A warning would have been helpful.
