I was ready to destroy this game, but...it's not bad. Really, it's not. Normally I'd say that it's just not terrible and unplayable, but this is just a bit clunky but otherwise isn't very far off from Driver. I was actually surprised how well the game was laid out when you really get into the chasing. There's some questionable mechanics and the difficulty absolutely has that "how tf?" difficulty that you remember from Driver, but it's the kind of thing you can forgive. It is a late release, though, so standards were a bit high at the time and that's probably what held this back.
What I do find hilarious is that, much like the TV series and shows like it, it kind of glamourizes police "action" in a way that makes you laugh and shake your head in disappointment at the same time. Apparently, I needed to let the car in the last stage destroy himself rather than physically stop him for my own safety, so the law enforcement lessons are certainly on point.
