A soldier from the Queen's Royal Lancers is the first military amputee to be fitted with a new bionic arm. Last September 23-year-old Corporal Andrew Garthwaite of the Queen's Royal Lancers was involved in an operation to disrupt the insurgency in Nad E Ali. A firefight broke out and he lost his right arm in a rocket propelled grenade attack that killed another soldier. Cpl Garthwaite can control his new arm using muscles in his chest and back. His progress is likely to give hope to hundreds of military personnel who've lost limbs fighting for their country.
