XCOM Chimerian Squadron - Episode 18
==== Began uploading on 2022, December, 11th, 19:25 ====
Hello again.
This is a mission. A boring one and just as unremarkable as most of operations in this game really.
Here's a more fun fact - my thumbnail template for Chimerian Squadron has its roots in templates for TFTD, which in turn were based on Serious Sam 2's one. Talk about reusing the assets.
Now it's the story time.
(After unintentionally getting Jared into a panic attack with psionic trick, Nicoletta Gasparado looked distressed enough. The sounds of pain and tears were heard as the storyteller was sent back into the nightmares of Enemy Unknown era.
Doctor Tygan, having heard the panic attack, helped Nicoletta to transport Jared into the infirmary. Through medicide, Tygan rendered Jared unconscious, figuring out that it would be the best for the moment being, so that the panic attack would pass on its own. Nicoletta sat near the hospital bed looking with fear at Jared.
Despite sleeping now, Jared hasn't escaped the nightmare... And it went on...)

BRAIN MEMORY: INVASION IS HELL, PART 2

START MEMORY
Three hours in APC.
A tiring experience.
Legs ask me to have a workout outside.
But only now I could do that.
As the door opens, I jump outside - frightened, yet just wanting to go heroic on the aliens.
The sight of what was before me destroyed all, if any enthusiasm.
Childhood memories, the stories about the greatness of New York City.
Countless movies and newspapers about big dreams which came true here.
Always wanted to see the city after my service duty.
To see for myself the pinnacle of economics and culture of my country.
Central Park lies before me.
Poststamps and pictures on the internet shined the place as an enjoyable experience.
The aliens took all the beauty away. Tree husks, burning and melting under fresh plasma impacts. Water, once clear, polluted by oil and blood.
Background of the City of Skyscrapers - now the City of Ruins. Mighty towers being partially destroyed from massive aerial bombardment.
Crimson skies lighten the night. Smoke fills the air everywhere. Fiery fires engulfing once competent residental quadrants. City-wide sirens everywhere. Alarm projectors help to spot an enormous ship just above what was Empire State building. AA guns working like clocks, yet clearly running out of ammo.
Why this happened? And for what reason unknown to me?
That would be fitting questions to ask myself... if I was away. Being here threw anything doubtful away.
It was a full siege. And not for territorial expansion - just for the kicks. I couldn't digest why the aliens had to use plasma bombs on the civilians.
All hospitals, all schools, offices and markets - they were gone. A smell of burned flesh was unmistakeable.
Our job was to protect the civilians. But it dawned on us all - on me, on my brother-in-arms, on our squad officer and the APC driver.
We were in no shape to fight forces such as this. The only thing would be to rescue whom we could and then get out.
Leaves of trees still standing strong would cover us from the alien detection while we save the people.
From a full-on counterattack this became an evacuation order.
Danger fills the air. Even our officer somewhat shakes herself. But she has to lead us to the victory.
"Good luck", indeed. We're going to need every single bit of luck if we're to make out of here alive.
But civilians first. We knew for what we assigned when taking the contract to serve for security of our home nation.
And we have to do whatever it takes, even if it ends in our death.
Hearing the screams from under the bridge, we approach it, looking everywhere.
A horrifying sound. We jump into the impact craters. Looking up - it was the jet fighter of ours.
Never would think about hearing them that close.
In flames, the pilot of this fighter managed to defy the alien force with leftover rockets, blowing up some black points descending from blue light.
This light confirmed the worst.
The silhouettes of descending forces weren't even remotely human in shape.
It wasn't a cruel joke, but a grim reality.
We're definitely not alone in the universe, and the revelation was out of our misery.
As soon as we've recovered from sound blast, we had to get moving again.
APC driver waited for the civilians, risking his life by staying nearby.
And we didn't want to become the dinner ourselves.
Grabbing the LMG back into my hands, I started shambling towards the screams, along with my comrades.
Hopefully it isn't too late.
END MEMORY
