I spent some time pouring over our soldier's files, as much time as I could spare at least, given that it was clear the council expected us to respond promptly to their summons. But with so many of our seasoned troops wounded, my options were limited.

Cerberus Johnson held the most senior rank, so it was clear he'd be going and would fill the role of a sniper. Under his command would be 'Atheist Cat' and Grimnir 'Half-Dwarf' (how he got that name, given how physically imposing he is, I have no idea... I imagine there's a colourful story there somewhere). Filling the last position I assigned a rookie, despite some complaints, but despite her lack of experience on the field (at least, THIS field... the one full of aliens) her file impressed me.

I'm pleased to report that my faith in Louise was not at all misplaced. In fact, the entire team performed far above my expectations, even in the face of a new alien species. Our team successfully escorted the VIP and more importantly the package thy were carrying to the extraction point with only Atheist Cat suffering any wounds.

Much to my surprise the council have informed me that the VIP, a Shaojie Zhang would be staying on with us, as a Lieutenant no less. This has caused quite a stir among the troops, but I can't deny that the man knows his way around a weapon, and based on what little information my staff could dig up on him, he's seen enough bloodshed that I doubt anything the aliens will throw at us could shake his nerves.

But with Operation Cryptic Heat behind us, I have a meeting with Dr Shen regarding some base improvements, and also some more medals to award, and if I'm honest, I'm hoping that the rest of the month passes by quietly, but I suppose that'll be up to the aliens...
