So, XCOM: Enemy Unknown. Buy this game. It is awesome.
Anyway, impossible difficulty walkthrough. I'm doing semi-ironman. I save at the start of each battle and only restart if I lose all my troopers. Didn't happen here. So that's nice.
Start off doubling up Interceptor coverage, and completing research for xenobiology. I picked up South America last month (luck), so do all my autopsies. The access lift completes along with the power generator, so it's time to excavate the second level.
A UFO is spotted, so I shoot it down, and before going to deal with the wreck, I advance time a little to complete my officer training school, so I can have 5 in the squad. Then, queue up some satellite production, and it's off to investigate the crash. Zhang joins us, so I take Bullet Swarm, Suppression and Rapid Reaction. The next heavy can take heat ammo to deal with robots.
It's a small UFO. 4 Sectoids, 2 Floaters and an Outsider. Apart from a few utterly stupid moments (walking into the same overwatch twice, forgetting to click run and gun, and dashing blind into the outsider room), it goes ok. For the most part, I have an Overwatch line of death and a puller. So, set up the line, send in the puller, pull back, hopefully enemies follow into the deathwatch line.
Anyway, 2 promotions -
Olsen - Sniper - battle scanner
Santiago - Assault - extra defense
Back at the base, I sell some loot, and complete some research, then do some autopsies, and start on Alien Materials, chasing down armour upgrades.
Then another abduction mission. With no engineers on the cards, I take the scientists, since faster research is never a bad thing, and buy a laser rifle. Diallo (support) gets the rifle, along with a scope and we're off to an Australian truck stop.
I've just played this map on my normal playthrough, so I've got a good idea of where they aliens hang out, and abuse that knowledge a little. The laser rifle makes such a difference, but I make enough mistakes to sink a ship, but somehow stil battle my way through. Battle Scanners are also deployed. They're very useful.
Promotions
Angel (Support) - Suppression (winning)
Barnes (Heavy) - Heat Ammo
Diallo (Support) - Extra Smoke grenades
Misfire (Assault) - Tactical sense (extra defense)
I realise I'm not going to be able to get an uplink operational this month, and instead am going to have to rush the alien containment and capture a sectoid/thin man and an outsider in the next UFO mission.
