So, I like to periodically check in how the arcade Chihiro Beta version of Outrun 2 is coming along in CxbxReloaded the original Xbox emulator that can also run a small handful of Chihiro arcade games. I found out the other day that there's another Xbox emulator around called Xemu, that actually manages emulation of the Sega Chihiro Outrun 2 Beta without the graphical bugs of CXBXR. I managed to get it up and running this afternoon.

Although it doesn't have the graphical bugs of CXBXR, unfortunately it only runs at about 10-15fps on my 10 year old PC. Never mind... looks like I'll be sticking with CXBXR for the moment for my Chihiro fix.

I was also having the (apparently common) issue of the track abruptly ending at the end of the first stage and not being able to progress any further, despite the fact I created a patched ISO version of the game which is supposed to prevent this...

I've sped up the attract mode and gameplay footage here in video rendering to equate to the game's normal speed. I've also added new music too...

An interesting thing about being able to play the actual Chihiro game, is the fact the Ferrari Testarossa (the original 1986 Outrun car) had a very different look in this version of the game compared to all the subsequent home ports and sequels. Apparently it was re-designed in the later games to appear more like the version from the 1986 super-scaler original, which has been the case from Outrun 2 on the Xbox and beyond. The only other place this original Chihiro Testrossa design featured was in the Xbox demo of Outrun 2, but only as a rival car (thanks once again to fellow Outrun 2 superfan Noobsaibot21 for making me aware of this in the first place). Oddly, this version of the Testarossa was the one that featured on the back of the Xbox OR2 box. You can see it here on the back of my very own PAL copy of OR2: https://sta.sh/019w09shrhva
Interestingly as well, Beta Testarossa's a 6 gear car, SPDX's is 5 speed.

There are also a few billboards that look a bit different in the opening Palm Beach stage too in the Beta Chihiro game (the FILA one sticks out), as well as different menus and UI design. There's no proper ending also in the Beta title. If you spot any other changes let me know
