It's crazy just how much better the intro cutscene is than every other FMV in the game. Like it's not even close. You can tell this was outsources to a proper-ass animation studio instead of Square handling it internally.
This scene still looks awesome 20-plus years later. Every line feels iconic, from the "I am the alpha and the omega" introduction to the classic "you shall be as gods", a phrase that would return as a core part of Xenosaga. Deus fucking shit up and all of imagery is equivalent to a horror movie, but the visuals and music are so good that it doesn't really feel that way. Instead, it's a crazy origin story that honestly won't be paid off for another 50 hours.
The end of this scene is essentially the birth of the first woman on our planet, our lovely naked purple haired character. You can immediately understand that fact when you first watch this but it won't make any sense until pretty far into disc 2. Kind of a bummer that this scene is so far removed from the rest of the game, but as a stinger to get you interested, this thing certainly works as intended.
