Nothing in Xenogears is more over the top or on the nose quite like the Soylent System. I'm never going to say that Xenogears is subtle or shows restraint, but it rarely preaches to the player as openly as this, or uses a more obvious metaphor than Soylent Green.

But man, it is effective. It's not effective for the imagery so much as the characters. Fei quite literally has an Id-like freakout scene, almost as some kind of joke, and Citan very clearly shows a heel turn here as he rubs it in what they're doing. Since when do characters eat in RPGs anyway? I don't know that we've actually eaten since the fish scene in Aquvy.

Citan drives the knife in more and more, pointing out the party's flaws as if they had any idea, and then drags Elly's dad through the mud, talks about the M plan, pretty much everything. And then, just to sum it up, he pulls out one of the game's classic lines: this is reality, let's go.

I'm always thinking about Citan's final line here as everyone else walks off. "To kill a motherfucker and eat his body. Is that shit legit?" Xenogears, man. There will never be another.
