Not a lot actually happens here, but the aura of Id finally appearing in the flesh, getting to see his portrait and hear his name -- there's nothing like it in Xenogears. What follows is Xenogears's most memorable boss fight, a brutal 3 on 1 encounter with The One Who is Torn Apart playing over it.
Id is a hard fight, which enhances the scene (unlike the Id fight on disc 2, which is unfortunately a cakewalk), and you feel like you just barely survived. I kinda feel like Id would have been better with him on foot vs. you in gears given his buildup, but I'm happy it was on foot because that's more fun from a gameplay perspective. In the end, the game doesn't even try to pretend that you won, it just interrupts it with Wiseman coming in and holding Id down for a few seconds so you can chase after Stone.
It's too bad that Id didn't just kill Stone and you had to fight him for Emeralda but oh well. This is the best atmospheric moment in the game.
