Yellow Trouble Demo Playthrough (Steam Next Fest June 2025)
I was surprised to find this is not only shmup-adjacent, but tries to be an action RPG as well. Unfortunately, it seems maybe imperfect at both.
Arcade mode seems the more reasonable and successful of the two by far, but the bosses seem indestructible - I've only ever timed them out.
The ARPG (Quest) mode doesn't feel particularly satisfying; the map is overly drawn out with save points too few and far between given your tiny health pool, and enemies feel rather tanky, seemingly necessitating a certain prioritization of the upgrade tree in order to be anywhere near reasonable.
I find the hitbox confusing (even when it's displayed) due to the large size of the player character sprites. Enemies can also completely point-blank you, there isn't any warning as to when an attack will start, and bullets spawn in different places for different enemies / different attacks.
Hopefully more tuning happens before this releases; otherwise, I'd figure this is primarily worthwhile for the Arcade mode - but then, that's all I was originally expecting anyway; I had initially assumed Quest mode might be Arcade mode plus lore.
Update June 17: it would seem that more tuning has indeed happened: https://steamcommunity.com/games/3091520/announcements/detail/809072587205253097
