23Oolong can move horizontally, make very wide jumps, attack and parry with different moves thanks to the two buttons "kick" and "punch" combined with the 8 directions of the joystick.
Oolong and the opponents always have 8 hit points, and any hit always removes 1. There are no rounds, it is enough to defeat each opponent once, while the player has three total lives. If you defeat the opponent without taking a hit you achieve a "Perfect," gaining additional points for the feat-this bonus would become a cliché for later video games of the fighting game type.
There are 11 characters to face, but the number is generally reduced in other platforms, and in some the opponents are also very different. The originals are:
Buchu, a sumo wrestler who can "glide." If you hit him in the groin you will hear a voice exclaiming Ni hao!
Star, a girl armed with shuriken.
Nuncha, armed with nunchaku.
Pole, armed with Bō, which he also uses to move as in pole vaulting.
Feedle, able to split into 3. All 3 Feedles must be defeated.
Chain, armed with a chain with a hook on top.
Club, armed with a spiked club and a parrying glove.

Moves are thrown at high, middle, and low levels. Regardless of the move that defeated them, male characters (save Feedle) always fall unconscious lying on their backs with their legs apart (Oolong flails his legs), and female characters always fall lying on their sides.
Feedle disappears. When a player gains an extra life, the word "xiè xiè" (Mandarin for "thank you") is heard.
The scenario with the first five opponents shows a waterfall in the background, while that of the remaining ones shows an oriental temple.
The gmae is endless, players can play on until all their lives are gone. No bonus lives are given thereafter once 9,999,900 is scored.
