Game Review & Impressions
---------------------------------------------------
A visually attractive blaster with an absurd title, Zing Zing Zip combines World War II-era technology with an anachronistically rock guitar soundtrack. Players take to the skies to and must shoot down wave-upon-wave of planes, bombard ground-based gun emplacements, and tackle absurdly oversized flying fortresses, all whilst attempting to avoid crippling RSI in the fingers and wrists.

In broad terms, this is a standard shoot 'em up featuring all the mechanics and features so typical with the genre. Defeated enemies drop power-ups which increase weapon power, change the type of weapon shot, award extra smart bombs, and so forth. ZZZ is also definitely on the tougher end of the scale when it comes to this kind of thing, and I found that using anything other than the blue 'Aquafresh' laser cannon simply lacked the punch to deal with the enemies the game was throwing at me. The real trick to survival in this game is to perfect the use of the barrel-roll manoeuvre, which makes you invulnerable temporarily, although I found pulling this off to be really tricky, requiring very specific timing when pulling left and right on the joystick, and more often than not found myself rolling into danger than getting out of it!

My chief criticism of Zing Zing Zip was really the way the difficulty forced me to use one specific weapon throughout the majority of the game; if the balance had been a little more lenient and the the gameplay more varied, I'd have enjoyed this more. It's not without merit, but probably not a title I'd come back to.
