Zoom! Game Sample - Genesis/MD
Original Air Date: January 26th, 2010
Another relatively uncommon game, Zoom! is a surprisingly good game made pretty close to the launch of the Genesis. We own both the U.S. and Japanese version of the game, but I haven't noticed any differences between them. It's like an update to the old-school title, Amidar, for the Atari 2600 with neat power-ups, point multipliers, cool 2-Player modes, and sports dozens of levels.
Playing as "Smart", your object is to run around a grid, "shoot" balls from your rear at enemies, and light up all the tiles by running around them and filling in lines. Filling in three sides and then zipping by to fill in the last side can net bonus points if done well, though for the purpose of this video, we move a little faster to finish the first stage. For a game of its kind and considering when it was made, the graphics and sound are quite good, though the "Come on Boy!" sound sample gets kinda old pretty quickly, but I didn't find it too annoying. Power-ups range from slowing enemies to becoming invincible, and you can collect point items as well.
It's worth picking up if you're into these kinds of games and it's pretty cheap anyway.
