10 Best Changes In The Surge 2 | Online Features, New Weapons, Bigger Bosses
After five hours with The Surge 2 we can talk about the best changes: new weapon classes, bigger bosses, new customization depth and tweaked combat. Our new Surge 2 gameplay (captured on PC) shows biggest changes so far. Thanks to Logitech G and the G432 7.1 Surround Sound gaming headset for sponsoring this video. This is not a The Surge 2 review - we've only played the first chunk of the game. But until we do our full The Surge 2 review closer to release in September, we hope this in-depth look at the way the game has changed will help get you in the mood. If you watched our previous video about new The Surge 2 features (you can see it here: https://youtu.be/oLK_bwCwnF4) you'll know some of the basics, but now we've had proper time to explore the world and dig into the crafting, there's a lot more to be said.
This Surge 2 gameplay is taken from our first five hours with the game, es explore a prison, Jericho City and its dangerous docks. We got to test out the new directional block - setting up those wonderfully violent finishers - and fight some of the new bosses, ranging from tiny guards to giant robot spider things. We also try out new The Surge 2 weapons, like the fist fighting class and the new double duty that splits down the middle to make two axes. Tasty.
Deck13, the creators of The Surge 2, have long lived in the shadow of Dark Souls. Mainly because they made Lords of the Fallen, which is very Dark Souls-y. The Surge takes plenty of inspiration from that series, but mixes it with new sci-fi DNA. And in this sequel the game really becomes its own. These The Surge 2 impressions are based on preview build, but we liked what we saw. As much as we like the sound of the game’s direction, you do have to take it with a pinch of salt. As always, we recommend waiting for The Surge 2 release date (24 September) than preordering, or anything like that.
In our Surge 2 demo we explore the docks, take on new Saprk enemies with their deadly gadgets and try out a range of pointy sticks and heavy metal bludgeons. We also try the new online features, such as sharing messages with holographic graffiti and playing hide and seek with other players. It's quite neat. You’ll be able to get The Surge PS4 and on Xbox One, but we’re looking at the PC version, as we tend to do.
Hopefully our The Surge 2 preview answers your burning questions - if not, pop any queries you have in the comments below. I’ve love it if you would subscribe to Rock Paper Shotgun for more videos like this, maybe give the video a little like while you’re at it. If you want more The Surge 2 gameplay, why not watch our 20 minute trip of the game's opening - you'll see it without me jabbering over the top. That's here: https://youtu.be/DEhS0bwvOcc
Oh, and if you are looking for other upcoming games like Dark Souls, why not check out our preview and impressions video for Code Vein. That can be found here: https://youtu.be/AwdK7WLR_Js
