We do a nostalgia run with 10 top Playstation 2 titles running on PCSX2 on Ubuntu Linux!

Timeline:
1. Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec 0:00
2. Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence 1:20
3. Tekken 5 2:30
4. Kingdom Hearts 3:30
5. God of War 2 4:30
6. Shadow of the Colossus 5:40
7. Silent Hill 2 6:40
8. Ratchet and Clank 7:40
9. Black 8:40
10. Dragonball Z Budokai 9:40

I'm using PCSX2 version 1.4.0, with the default GSdx plugin (GCC 5.3.1, SSE2) 1.0.0.

No GTA or Final Fantasy games included, because those games already have PC versions still available on the market now. They work, but I felt there wasn't really a point showing them through an emulator when there are HD remakes available.

No doubt if I knew how to get a GSdx plugin that had SSE3 or AVX2 instead, I would have better performance, since my CPU does support those instruction sets. Unfortunately, PCSX2 only seems to ship with this default plugin right now on Linux.

I'm purposefully not playing at the default native resolution, as I want the games to look sharp and as beautiful as they can look. Everything in PCSX2 is left at default except the settings I show in the video.

Out of all these 10, the one that doesn't perform the best would be God Of War. That's because it needs the half-pixel offset hack which takes quite a toll on performance. Without that hack enabled, GOW2 has ghosting.

I was surprised so many games just work, and work well. A year ago, I couldn't even get a single game to run without it slowing down to a crawl. I can now play all these games in their entirety!

I played through all these titles using my original Playstation 2 Dual Shock 2 controller, through a PS2 to USB converter (no brand). Just plug and play on Ubuntu. No additional drivers or third party software needed.

For the frame counter on the top left, I used GLXOSD v3. I left it at the default config, and only changed what was shown to being FPS only.

Here's the PCSX2 PPA I used to install version 1.4.0 on my system:
