1908 Mercedes Grand Prix - 140hp, 12.8-Litre Four-Cylinder Engine - Goodwood Festival of Speed
80You can see this 1908 Mercedes Grand Prix driven by Ben Collings in action during the 2018/2019 editions of the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The large 12.8-Litre 4-cylinder in-line engine developed around 140hp at 1,400 rpm and was designed taking into account the change in racing regulations that began precisely in that racing season. The Bore/Stroke ratio of the engine became 155x170mm, and the overall weight of the car had to be at least 1.150Kg. Mercedes with this model won the 1908 French Grand Prix with the driver Christian Lautenschlager. The impressive thing was that he arrived almost nine minutes ahead of his main competitor Hemery behind the wheel of a Benz.

Questa Mercedes Grand Prix del 1908 pilotata da Ben Collings la potete vedere in azione filmata durante le edizioni 2018/2019 del Goodwood Festival of Speed. Il grosso motore 4 cilindri in linea sviluppa circa 140cv a 1.400 giri/min ed è stato concepito tenendo conto al cambio di regolamenti nelle competizioni che iniziarono proprio in quella stagione di corse.
Il rapporto Alesaggio/Corsa del motore divenne 155x170mm ed il peso complessivo dell'auto doveva essere di almeno 1.150Kg. Mercedes con questo modello di vetture si aggiudicò la vittoria al Gran Premio di Francia del 1908 con il pilota Christian Lautenschlager. La cosa impressionante fu l'arrivo a quasi nove minuti avanti rispetto al suo principale concorrente Hemery al volante di una una Benz.
