198X is more a Interactive Movie, than a game. So the protagonist is this kid, which discovers a run down arcade hall with teenagers that are speaking with each other and are absorbed in the games. So you get bits of the story and then the kid is playing a game, which is your part playing them. So far i had three different types of games. It starts with a Beat'em up then you got a sidescrolling space shooter and at last a outrun like racer.
The Pixelart of this game in the Story scenes and in the arcade games is absolute gorgeus. The graphics of the games i better then from the SNES or the Mega Drive (Genesis), it's more like Sidescrolling Playstation 1 games, even if there wheren't many.
From the reviews on Steam i can tell, that the game is rather short. Most people got in between 1,5 - 2 hours playtime, some got a longer playtime. But when you see it more as a movie than a game, then this isn't a problem. If you like the story is based on your personal taste, so it's for you to decide.
